The Health Benefits of Ginger

The incredible ginger tops our list of effective, natural home remedies.  It’s one of the healthiest and tastiest spices on the planet and its popularity in cuisine is undeniable!  But did you know ginger is a natural remedy with the amazing ability to ward off infections and treat different health conditions?  Here at StayHealthyTV we will share some ideas that make the most of the health benefits of ginger.
Here are our suggestions for how to use ginger:

1. Ginger lemon tea:
Cut up a chunk of fresh ginger (no need to peel).  Cover with boiling water.  Add a little honey (an antibiotic that helps to soothe your throat) and a squeeze of lemon (to boost the immune system) for the perfect ginger lemon tea.  This is perfect for coughs and colds or at any time.

2. Combine ginger, soy sauce, olive oil and garlic to make a beautiful marinade.

3. Before eating, chew on a thin slice of ginger root.  This will help in regulating metabolism, stimulating digestion, reducing cortisol production and increasing energy.

4. Grate a small piece of ginger and add a squeeze of lemon juice and a dash of salt, mix together.  Eating a couple of small pinches of this mixture before you eat each of your meals helps to control appetite and aid digestion.

5. Smoothies?  Add fresh or dried ginger to green smoothies.  For example, use fresh spinach, fresh beet, fresh berries (blackberries, blueberries, whatever you have on hand), carrots and apples to make nutritious smoothies.

6. Stir Fries:  Add to vegetable dishes to enhance their flavour.  Slice fresh ginger & use in stir fries, soups and sauces to give it a bit of a kick.

7. If you can handle gingers heat use a tbsp or 2 in your ginger tea.  You can also grate raw ginger into a homemade chai with almond milk.  Delicious!

8. Pickled ginger with sushi or in a salad.

9.  Crystallized ginger to calm your stomach when travelling.  So good for motion sickness!  And how about in baking?  Gingerbread men, gingernut cookes and ginger & lemon cake?

10 . Fresh ginger chunks, a pinch of turmeric, a squeeze of lemon and raw honey.  Drink this mixture daily to drastically reduce sickness.

11.  Ginger Ale!  Drink as a cold and flu remedy, to reduce nausea, abdominal pain or stomach upsets.
